Carolyn, known as Caro, is the niece of renowned South African artist, Carrol Boyes and the daughter of Charles Boyes, the CEO of Carrol Boyes Functional Art. With a deep-rooted passion for creativity Caro, as a designer for the flourishing business and continuing the family heritage, has crafted a range of bags which are inspired by the intricate beauty of the human form and nature.

Born in Limpopo, South Africa

Caro spent her childhood on a thriving citrus farm with her family. This farm, steeped in family history, is the birthplace of the Carrol Boyes factory. It is a place where creativity thrives alongside the wildlife, and inspiration flows as freely as the nearby river.

Surrounded by nature and a legacy of artistry, Caro’s upbringing was a rich tapestry of imagination and familial love. She began drawing at a very young age, her sketchbook a constant companion. After school, she would race home, plop down on the veranda, and spend afternoons lost in her drawings, often inspired by her aunt’s sculptures.

Caro Boyes – The Designer

Caro’s artistic journey continued at St. Anne’s Diocesan College, an all-girls high school nestled in the picturesque Natal Midlands. Her passion for art was both nurtured and ignited during her time there. Caro then attended Stellenbosch University, where she earned an Honours degree in Fine Art. She further honed her expertise with a Master’s in Luxury Business from the prestigious Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London, receiving the Director’s Commendation.

Her love for both the arts and business naturally led her to join the family business, Carrol Boyes. Her father, Charles, is her biggest supporter, encouraging her to design her own range within the company and helping her bring her unique visions to life.

Celebrating Art and Life in Harmony

Caro has always been captivated by drawing the human form and botanical subjects, which naturally inspire her designs. With every piece she curates, Caro aims to celebrate the harmonious relationship between art and life, hoping to inspire others to find beauty in the everyday.

Her goal is to build the Carrol Boyes brand and showcase to the world what South Africans are made of.

Each handbag, from bucket to tote, embodies timeless beauty and quiet luxury.
